Things to do
Achilleion is a palace built in Gastouri on the Island of Corfu for the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sisi, after a suggestion by the Austrian consul Alexander von Warsberg. Elisabeth was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of her only son, Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria following the Mayerling incident in 1889, and a year later she had this summer palace built as a refuge.
The architectural style was designed to suggest an ancient palace of mythical Phaeacia. The motif centers on the hero Achilles of Greek mythology, from which the name is derived.

Take the time to walk around the villages nearby as an alternative activity and enjoy the magnificent views and the picturesque landscapes of Corfu island.

Starting from the Villa Pangalis Romantica you can head right towards Kato Garouna village which is the shortest road and you get to also see the traditional village. When you reach to Kato Pavliana’s Orthodox Church on your left, head right and walk through the beautiful green scenery. Once you are walking through the center of Kato Garouna village and have the pharmacy on your left, walk right and downhill towards Agios Gordios. After that you can walk straight ahead and mainly downhill until you reach the beach.

Starting from Kato Pavliana village, take the road to Kato Garouna village heading towards Agios Gordios beach. Continue until you find a steep road on your right that leads to Pentati village & Chris’s place taverna. Keep on walking all the way through the olive trees to the quite village. You can enjoy the traditional Corfiot cusine at Angela’s restaurant, in a pleasant and friendly environment. It is worth walking down the hill to the picturesque harbor “Fioroula” where there is no sandy beach but you can still have a swim watching the famous Agios Gordios rock from another point of view.
Stip climb from beach to Pentati village
This route takes you along the beachfront at Agios Gordios, up the headland and around the corner to the small fishing village of Pentati. Its position is spectacular and the views of Agios Gordios Bay and beyond are breath-taking. Walk down to Agios Gordios beach and facing the sea turn left and walk all the way until the end. You will pass the rocks sticking out in the sand and the big Agios Gordios Mayor La Grotta Hotel. Once you have reached the very end of the beach you will see a path heading up and around the headland, this is your route. Go careful here because the path is a rocky and steep and depending on the time of year can be slippery. As you wind your way up the headland you will be able to get a great view of Agios Gordios and the wide sweeping beach

Spectacular views over the whole island and the chance to see where the para-gliders jump from! This walk will take your breath away in more ways than one. From Villa Pangalis Romantica you take the road that leads to Kato Garouna village. Go all the way up to the centre of Garouna; before you reach a crossroad (facing the local pub & the pharmacy) take the road you find on your right, and walk all the way up to the hill. Enjoy the colors and sounds of the nature, and of course the panoramic view (Corfu town, northern and southern Corfu, mountains of Epirus and Albania). Continue walking all the way to the top and view Agios Gordios beach, and the west-north coastline of the island. Follow the same road back to Kato Pavliana.
